{"id":127,"date":"2014-09-22T15:10:28","date_gmt":"2014-09-22T19:10:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.torrid-tech.com\/community\/?p=127"},"modified":"2021-11-02T13:47:53","modified_gmt":"2021-11-02T17:47:53","slug":"ways-people-know-you-are-a-salesman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.torrid-tech.com\/community\/index.php\/ways-people-know-you-are-a-salesman\/","title":{"rendered":"Ways People Know You Are a Salesman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>People are uncomfortable around &#8220;salesman&#8221;.\u00a0 They are afraid they will be &#8220;sold&#8221; something they don&#8217;t want to buy, or that they can&#8217;t afford.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, people get nervous when they &#8220;spot a salesman&#8221;.\u00a0 They want to run away.\u00a0 Have you been to a car lot and had a &#8220;salesman&#8221; start approaching you before you have even gotten both shoes on the ground out of your car?<\/p>\n<p>If you are a financial advisor or insurance agent or similar &#8220;professional&#8221;, you don&#8217;t want people being &#8220;nervous&#8221; around you.\u00a0 Your whole business is built on &#8220;trust&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some things to ABSOLUTELY AVOID if you want to build the most trust and avoid being viewed as a &#8220;salesman&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t display trophies or awards in your office related to being a &#8220;top salesman&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t be too easily and readily accessible.\u00a0 People that are difficult to meet with are not likely to be salesman.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t be &#8220;too eager&#8221;.\u00a0 This shines through as &#8220;desperate&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t be &#8220;pushy&#8221;.\u00a0 No one likes this at all.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t rush the prospect.\u00a0 They feel like you are pressuring them into a decision.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t be over-confident or glib with quick ready answers to every objection.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t be a &#8220;product pusher&#8221;.\u00a0 You need to discuss each person&#8217;s needs and recommend custom solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t\u00a0 be evasive in answering questions, especially direct ones.<\/p>\n<p>These are some of the top tell-tale signs.\u00a0 Avoid these and you will be more successful.<\/p>\n<p>I give credit to Matt Zagula and Dan Kennedy from their book &#8220;Trust Based Marketing&#8221; for their insights in this area.\u00a0 Thanks Matt and Dan!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People are uncomfortable around &#8220;salesman&#8221;.\u00a0 They are afraid they will be &#8220;sold&#8221; something they don&#8217;t want to buy, or that they can&#8217;t afford.
